Saving Money Through Organic Living

Check your local farmer’s market for better prices on organic produce.

The local farmers are always good people to go to if you want fresher produce for a better price! At the farmers market, there are many options for what’s in season. If you don’t like the farmer’s price, they may lower it with a little negotiating!

Talk to friends and family.

Ask your friends and family where they shop and what the prices are like on their organic items. Sometimes a better deal is right behind you! And if your store ends up being the cheapest, you might as well spread the word.

Look for sales and coupons.

Let your menu be friends with your budget by planning your meals around this week’s sales. Use a coupon for even more money off the sale price and take advantage of rebates. With practice, you can get many items for free!

Grow some of your own herbs, fruits, and vegetables.

Even a small to medium size garden can flourish with a bounty of inexpensive, healthy treats! You can have the freshest salads, tantalizing meals, and still have fruit for breakfast and fruit smoothies as well! Yum!

Prioritize your organic spending.

Every trip to the store doesn’t have to end with buying everything you like. Prioritize your grocery list to things you need for this week’s meals and necessities.

Shop with a friend.

Shopping with a friend gives you company along with their ideas for great savings! Also, you and your friend can split the gas bill. Plus, you can put your heads together and split prices on bulk items!

Organize the pantry so you know what to buy.

Before going to the grocery store, take inventory of what you already have. This way you don’t buy something you’ve shoved into the back of your pantry. You also won’t have to make another run to the store for something you thought you had, but didn’t!

Make your own cleaning supplies.

Some vinegar, orange oil, and baking soda go a long way toward keeping your house clean, while saving you money on organic living.

Use common household organic items and diatomaceous earth for pest control.

Get rid of pests by stopping where they enter your house. Plug up holes around pipes and electrical entrances; put scrubbies in the weep holes of your bricks; and surround your house with diatomaceous earth from your garden supply center.

Hang clothes to dry.

You’d be surprised how much of your electric bill comes from running the dryer, especially if you have a family. Save that money by putting up a clothesline and letting your clothes dry in the fresh air.
